Member Spotlight: Kimberly Jakub-Rayfield, MSN, RN-BC, CPHIMS

In the dynamic field of health information and technology, professionals like Kimberly Jakub-Rayfield, MSN, RN-BC, CPHIMS, play a pivotal role in shaping the future. As the Product Director at Sevocity, a Division of Conceptual MindWorks, Inc., she has accomplished remarkable feats and continues to inspire those around her.

Kimberly's journey has seen its fair share of challenges. She recalls, "Leading our team to achieve 2015 ONC Certification was a monumental task." Back in 2006, when the team pursued their first CCHIT certification, they were a small but determined group. Kimberly emphasizes, "A lot of work went into it - but it was teamwork. I overcame it by not being afraid to face the challenge given to me head on."

Her fearlessness in tackling challenges is evident in her approach to her career. Kimberly recounts the early days when, as a Product Manager with a small team, they developed an Electronic Medical Record based on customer needs rather than regulatory requirements. She affirms, "We overcame it by collaborating as a team, organizing ourselves, creating a project, going step by step through the requirements, asking a lot of questions from our testing body and practicing, practicing practicing!"

When asked about the industry's trajectory for women, Kimberly emphasizes the abundance of opportunities available. For her, the growing demand in the workforce and the diverse viewpoints that women bring to the industry are sources of hope.

Kimberly's advice for women considering a career in health information and technology is clear: You are needed in this field. She urges women to explore their interests, leverage resources like the HIMSS website, and never shy away from asking questions. She asserts, "The best thing to do is not give up and ask a lot of questions. I guarantee [you] will find [your] niche."

Drawing motivation from various sources, including her family and the challenges she encounters, Kimberly finds daily inspiration in the dynamic nature of her work. She expresses, "My job motivates me every single day - no day is the same and that makes it fun."

Kimberly also highlights her involvement with the HIMSS PCB as a source of pride. This diverse group of professionals has achieved remarkable feats in promoting the importance of certification and professional development, demonstrating the power of collective passion and knowledge-sharing.

Beyond the workplace, Kimberly enjoys quality time with her family, immersing herself in nature through hiking, savoring live music, and indulging in a little retail therapy.
